Anorexia nervosa is a psychiatric disorder that mainly affects women (sex ratio 1/10) and for which the prognosis remains poor (10% of deaths and high risk of chronicity). This disorder is associated with a risk of infertility explained by different physiopathological pathways. Thus, the clinical and subclinical forms of this disease may be over-represented in populations of women using medically assisted reproduction technologies.

Article Synopsis
  • Anorexia nervosa (AN) primarily affects women, starting in adolescence, and is associated with poor outcomes, including a high mortality rate and chronicity, largely due to body image disorders.
  • This study seeks to evaluate the effectiveness of a targeted osteopathic treatment for AN by comparing its outcomes with standard treatment as usual (TAU) in a randomized controlled trial involving 72 patients.
  • The trial will measure interoceptive sensibility and other clinical symptoms over 14 weeks, utilizing a combination of osteopathic techniques focusing on the body's physical sensations, to assess whether this body-centered approach offers significant benefits compared to TAU alone.

Background: The comorbidity between anorexia nervosa (AN) and bipolar disorders (BD) among subjects with AN is a matter of some debate, regarding its existence, its impact on the clinical manifestations of AN and the nature of the relationship between these disorders. Our aims were: (1) to evaluate the prevalence of BD among patients with severe AN; and (2) to determine whether people with a history of BD present particular clinical AN characteristics in comparison to people with a comorbid major depressive disorder or with any mood disorder comorbidity.

Methods: 177 AN subjects were surveyed to assess their nutritional state, dietary symptomatology, psychiatric comorbidities, treatments received and associated response.

Objectives: The cost of hospital treatment for anorexia nervosa (AN) is very high given its duration. Identifying factors related to length of hospital stay (LOS) would make it possible to consider targeted therapeutic strategies that, by optimizing care, would reduce their duration and costs. The objective of this work is to identify the factors related (predictive and associated) to LOS for AN.

The authors begin by presenting the epistemological foundations that enabled them to design a therapeutic mediation framework aimed at enhancing the treatment of hospitalized anorexic patients. This unique framework utilizes bodily exploration through sound and music vibration. The authors were inspired by a method of of the body image through clay modeling, created by Gisela Pankow, and by the bodily aspects of the subject's relationship with the object in transitional phenomena and in playing, as elaborated by Donald W.
