Article Synopsis
  • The INCIPE study examined the prevalence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in 6200 Caucasian patients aged 40 and older in northeastern Italy, revealing a CKD prevalence of 13.2%.
  • Comparatively, this prevalence is lower than the 20.3% reported in U.S. Caucasians, largely due to differences in CKD stage 3 rates.
  • The study suggests that higher prevalence of renal risk factors in the U.S. contributes to the more significant CKD issue in that population compared to northeastern Italy.

Background: Wound healing is a biologic process that is altered in patients affected by chronic venous ulcers. The wound microenvironment is reflected in the chronic wound fluid (CWF), an exudate containing serum components and tissue-derived proteins.

Objectives: We investigated the effects of increasing doses of CWF collected from patients suffering from chronic venous ulcers on human adult dermal fibroblasts cultured in vitro and the relationship among CWF effects and treatment length.

Objectives: To compare the long-term results of stripping vs. haemodynamic correction (Ambulatory Conservative Haemodynamic Management of Varicose Veins, CHIVA) in the treatment of superficial venous incompetence resulting in chronic venous disease (CVD).

Design: Randomised comparative trial.
