Unlabelled: The metabolic health of the kidney is a primary determinant of the risk of progressive kidney disease. Our understanding of the metabolic processes that fuel kidney functions is limited by the kidney's structural and functional heterogeneity. As the kidney contains many different cell types, we hypothesize that intra-renal mitochondrial heterogeneity contributes to cell-specific metabolism.

Forced feeding during the anorectic period induced by bacterial inflammation is associated with suppressed ketogenesis and increased mortality. As ketogenesis is considered essential in fasting adaptation, we sought to determine the role of ketogenesis in illness-induced anorexia.

Most of these autoimmune phenomena involve older adult patients with abrupt, acute presentations.
Case Presentation: We report an atypical case of a young adult female patient with slow progressive onset of PCD symptoms with subsequent detection and treatment of Hodgkin lymphoma.
Length of stay is an important metric in healthcare systems, primarily because it reflects the cost of care provided. In the United States, as in many countries, inpatient hospital stays are significantly more expensive than outpatient care across all healthcare conditions,1 so earlier discharge and transition to outpatient care is crucial to help control the ever-increasing cost of healthcare. In burn patients, length of stay has traditionally been estimated at 1 day per 1% total body surface area of burn.

Recent Findings: Recent evidence suggests that sepsis is a metabolically distinct critical illness and that certain metabolic alterations, such as activation of fasting metabolism, may be protective in bacterial sepsis. These findings may explain the lack of survival benefit in recent randomized controlled trials of nutrition therapy for critical illness.
