Adenocarcinoma of unknown primary presenting with congestive heart failure in a middle-aged Ethiopian woman: a case report.

Background: Heart failure is a rare manifestation of metastatic disease of the carcinoma of an unknown primary, malignancy that requires extensive work-up to identify the primary site. Initial consideration of rare etiologies in patients presented with a common clinical syndrome is challenging.

Case Presentation: A 35-year-old Black woman presented with shortness of breath at rest, orthopnea, paroxysmal nocturnal dyspnea, chest pain, a blood-tinged productive cough, and fever for 2 weeks.

The use of rats to detect drug-resistant TB.

Although detection of drug-susceptible TB by Anti-Persoonsmijnen Ontmijnende Product Ontwikkeling-trained African giant pouched rats has been known for more than a decade, the detection of drug-resistant TB (DR-TB) using rats has never been explored before. We present what we believe to be the first report on rifampicin-resistant TB (RR-TB) detected using Xpert® MTB/RIF Ultra, comparably identified by rats sniffing sputum samples from presumptive TB patients: 88% of RR-TB detected using Ultra were identified by the rats. Further evaluation of the usefulness of rats for large-scale DR-TB contact triage testing is needed, especially in low- and middle-income countries, where resources are limited.

Prevalence of Intestinal Helminths among Cancer Patients Who Are under Chemotherapy at the University of Gondar Comprehensive Specialized Hospital Oncology Clinic, Northwest Ethiopia.

Background: In developing countries, environmental and personal hygiene is playing a great role in the increasing of intestinal helminth infection. In countries with limited resources and poor hygiene practices, there is a substantial overlap of intestinal helminthic and chronic infections like HIV, TB, and cancer. Intestinal helminths like , , and hookworm cause malnutrition and induce a type-2 immune response that could worsen the severity and clinical outcomes of patients with cancer.

The impact of COVID-19 on the tuberculosis control activities in Addis Ababa.

The first COVID-19 case was reported in Ethiopia on 13 March 2020 and series of announcements of set of measures, proclamation and directives have been enacted to fight the coronavirus pandemic. These have implications for the regular health services including the TB control program. This brief communication assesses the impact of the COVID-19 response on the TB control activities of Addis Ababa health centers based on research project data.

Data on how tree planting and management practices influence tree seedling survival in Kenya and Ethiopia.

Understanding which trees farmers prefer, what determines their survival and enhancing farmer knowledge of tree management is key to increasing tree cover in agricultural landscapes. This article presents data on tree seedling survival under different tree planting and management practices in Kenya and Ethiopia. Data were collected from 1600 households across three Counties in Kenya and 173 households across four Woredas in Ethiopia, using a structured questionnaire which was administered through the Open Data Kit.
