Purpose: Targeted prostate biopsies are increasingly being performed by urologists in the United States including those in the Pennsylvania Urologic Regional Collaborative, a physician-led data-sharing and quality improvement collaborative. To evaluate the performance of MRI guided fusion needle prostate biopsies in the collaborative, we analyzed the variability by practice in rates of detection of clinically significant prostate cancer and patient characteristics associated with detection of clinically significant prostate cancer.

Methods: We analyzed 857 first-time MRI fusion biopsy procedures performed at five practices (minimum 20 procedures) between 2015 and 2019.

Article Synopsis
  • Penile amputation is a rare but serious urological emergency that can result from various factors, necessitating advanced microsurgical techniques for successful reattachment to restore function and appearance.
  • *Recent advancements in microsurgery have improved the outcomes of penile replantation by allowing precise reconnections of blood vessels and nerves, which are essential for maintaining erectile function and sensation.
  • *A review of 46 cases identified common complications like postoperative necrosis (56.5%) and emphasized the importance of quick vascular repairs, while also suggesting new treatments such as hyperbaric oxygen therapy and the need for standardized protocols to improve outcomes and patient quality of life.

Preoperative checklists have demonstrated efficacy in improving patient care in the surgical setting. While the assessment of perioperative risks through patient inquiry is extensive, the menstrual status of the patient is one question that is not frequently discussed. If a patient is menstruating during their surgical procedure, unknown use of an intravaginal menstrual hygiene product, such as a tampon or menstrual cup, places the patient at risk of infection.

The interaction between interfacial water and transition metal oxides is a primary enabling step for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER). RuO is a prototypical OER electrocatalyst whose ability to activate interfacial water molecules is essential to its OER activity. We image the dissociation of surface water into OH* and O* on RuO(110), where * denotes adsorbed species, using atomic force microscopy.
