Genomic insights into pigmented Serratia marcescens strains isolated from patients in northeast Mexico.

Serratia marcescens (SM) is an opportunistic pathogen associated with outbreaks in immunocompromised hosts. While SM is commonly isolated from clinical and environmental sources, prodigiosin production is typically associated with environmental strains rather than clinical isolates. Here, we report the genome sequences of three pigmented SM clinical isolates -HU1848, HU2225, and HU2228- and examine their genomic and phenotypic characteristics.

Chronic kidney disease is associated with cognitive impairment although the underlying mechanisms are still not fully understood. Characterization and efficient monitoring of the cognitive impact of kidney disease and ensuing therapies are critical for the accurate clinical management of patients. A vast array of imaging modalities, biomarkers, and sensors have shown relevance for the assessment of cognitive impairment.

Comparison of the effects of laser photobiomodulation at wavelength of 660 nm and 808 nm in full-thickness burns in rats: a pre-clinical study.

Third-degree burns are severe thermal injuries that require prolonged recovery periods and are associated with significant sequelae. Photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) has emerged as a promising approach for treating skin injuries, although parameter selection remains controversial. This study investigated the effects of PBMT using red (wavelength 660 nm) and infrared (wavelength 808 nm) lasers on tissue repair in third-degree burns in rats.

Variation in wood density across South American tropical forests.

Wood density is a critical control on tree biomass, so poor understanding of its spatial variation can lead to large and systematic errors in forest biomass estimates and carbon maps. The need to understand how and why wood density varies is especially critical in tropical America where forests have exceptional species diversity and spatial turnover in composition. As tree identity and forest composition are challenging to estimate remotely, ground surveys are essential to know the wood density of trees, whether measured directly or inferred from their identity.
