Background: Lactoferrin (LTF) is an iron-binding glycoprotein found in milk and other exocrine secretion with antibacterial activity proposed as an alternative to mastitis treatment or prevention. LTF has been proposed as a candidate gene for mastitis resistance selection. The aim of this paper was to assess LTF promotor to explore variations with potential association to mastitis resistance in dairy cows from Honduras.

The use of synthetic dyes in the textile, leather, and paper industries is a source of groundwater pollution around the world. There are different methods for the treatment of wastewater that has been contaminated with dyes, among which adsorption with agro-industrial wastes is gaining relevance. In the present study, the adsorption capacity of cocoa bean shell powder was evaluated when it was used as a bioadsorbent for Congo red dye in an aqueous medium.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a recognized public health problem and key determinant of poor health outcomes. In Mexico, this condition has been associated with high and significant risk of death in COVID-19 patients; however, not enough attention has been given to the vulnerable population as the increasing numbers and fatality rates suggest. This study evaluated the effect of interaction between CKD condition and other risk factors (sex, diabetes, hypertension and obesity) on the survival rate of positive patients for COVID-19 in Mexico.
