Tracheal reconstruction represents a challenge when primary anastomosis is not feasible. Within this scenario, the study aim was to develop a new pig-derived decellularized trachea (DecellT) to be compared with the cryopreserved counterpart (CryoT) for a close predictive analysis. Tracheal segments underwent decellularization by a + method (12 cycles); in parallel, cryopreserved samples were also prepared.

To improve patients’ safety and outcomes while maintaining the efficacy of antimicrobials, complex interventions are needed involving infection control and appropriate pharmacological treatments in antibiotic stewardship programs. We conducted a multicenter pre-post study to assess the impact of a stewardship program in seven Italian intensive care units (ICUs).

Our study aims to shed light in this field and to provide useful prognostic factors that may support clinical decisions in the management of the elderly.
Methods: Six ICUs collected data concerning 80-year-old (or more) patients admitted in 2015 and 2016 and followed-up until May 2018.
The development of new candidate alloys with outstanding characteristics for their use in the aeronautical field is one of the main priorities for the sector. In this context, nanocrystaline (nc) alloys are considered relevant materials due to their special features, such as their exceptional physical and mechanical properties. However, another important point that needs to be considered with newly developed alloys is the potential toxicological impact that these materials may have in humans and other living organisms.

The scaling up of the various processing stages of these formulations was undertaken to prove their industrial feasibility. The aim was to investigate the effect of various preparation methods at different production scales (pilot- and semi-industrial scale) on the barrier performance and morphological properties of the applied nanocomposites.
