Emedastine Inhibits Th1 and Th2 Cell Differentiation Mediated by Mast Cells.

We have previously clarified that emedastine, a second-generation antihistamine drug, inhibits T helper 1(Th1)/Th2 cell differentiation mediated by Langerhans cells (LCs). In addition, although we have recently found that mast cells also function as antigen-presenting cells (APCs) and induce Th1/Th2 cell differentiation, any influence of emedastine on this function remained unclear. Here we investigated the influence of emedastine on Th1/Th2 cell differentiation via mast cells.

Investigation of the efficacy of the change ratio of brain natriuretic peptide for predicting the cardiac effects of chemoradiotherapy on esophageal cancer.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) as a predictor of radiological effects on the heart. A total of 41 patients with esophageal cancer who underwent chemoradiotherapy (CRT) were retrospectively investigated. The BNP levels were measured on the first day of CRT (pre-CRT) and the last day of CRT (post-CRT), and the median concentration of BNP and dosimetric parameters of the heart were calculated.

Pilot and Feasibility Studies of a Lifestyle Modification Program Based on the Health Belief Model to Prevent the Lifestyle-Related Diseases in Patients with Mental Illness.

In this study we have examined the feasibility of a program based on the health belief model (HBM), for its effectiveness in improving lifestyle-related diseases in patients with schizophrenia (SZ) and bipolar disorder (BD), which are often complicated with physical conditions. In this model, we attempted to enable patients to identify a "threat" and to find "balance between benefits and disadvantages". Subjects were carefully selected from among psychiatric patients by excluding any bias.

[Evaluation of Usefulness of the Tools for Collaboration between Hospital and Community Pharmacists in the Provision of Outpatient Cancer Chemotherapy].

Outpatient cancer chemotherapy is becoming increasingly widely adopted. It is, therefore, essential to strengthen the collaboration between hospital and community pharmacists. Although there have been several reports on the collaboration between these two health care providers in the provision of outpatient cancer chemotherapy, there have been no reports on the usefulness of the tools provided by hospital pharmacists to their community counterparts.
