Molecular epidemiology and HIV-1 variant evolution in Poland between 2015 and 2019.

The occurrence of HIV-1 subtypes differs worldwide and within Europe, with non-B variants mainly found across different exposure groups. In this study, we investigated the distribution and temporal trends in HIV-1 subtype variability across Poland between 2015 and 2019. Sequences of the pol gene fragment from 2518 individuals were used for the analysis of subtype prevalence.

Hypertension, dyslipidaemia, and cardiovascular risk in HIV-infected adults in Poland.

Background: The prevalence of cardiovascular diseases (CVD) in HIV-infected patients increases with aging and duration of the disease. Hypertension, high cholesterol level obesity, diabetes, tobacco exposure, and use of alcohol are among the traditional risk factors that contribute to CVD.

Aim: The aim of the study was to determinate the incidence of hypertension, lipid disturbances, and CVD risk in dependence on clinical, viral, and biochemical factors.

[Malaria and HIV co-infection].

The coexistence of malaria and HIV infection beyond inhabitants of sub-Saharan Africa, South America and South-East Asia arises a question whether there is an interaction between these two infections. This problem is extremely important in relation to pregnant women because of possibility of mother to child transmission. The available options are reviewed in the paper.

[Exposure to toxocariasis and tularemia among workers at Białowieza National Park].

Everyday contact of the workers of Białowieza sanctuary with animals may create a risk of infection by microorganisms attacking animals. The reported study was undertaken for carrying out an epidemiological analysis of tularemia and toxocarosis in this group of workers. Tularaemia infection was not found in then.
