Background: Existing guidelines for screening and treatment of asymptomatic bacteriuria (ASB) in pregnancy are based on studies completed more than 30 years ago. This evidence is characterized by a lack of consensus on the association between ASB and adverse pregnancy- and birth outcomes.

Aim: This systematic review aimed to investigate the association between untreated/treated ASB (≥10 colony-forming units (cfu) of the same bacteria per ml urine in two consecutive voided cultures without any symptoms) and pregnancy outcomes (pyelonephritis, chorioamnionitis, prelabour rupture of membranes (PROM)), and birth outcomes (preterm birth (PTB), low birth weight (LBW) and small for gestational age (SGA)).

Women with a preconception history of mental disorders or of psychosocial vulnerabilities are at increased risk of experiencing perinatal stress or mental health problems. Mindfulness-Based-Stress-Reduction (MBSR) is an acceptable intervention for pregnant women and has a growing evidence-base with meta-analyses consistently pointing to reductions in symptoms of stress, anxiety and depression.

Introduction: Postpartum depression affects 10%-15% of women and has a recurrence rate of 40% in subsequent pregnancies. Women who develop postpartum depression are suspected to be more sensitive to the rapid and large fluctuations in sex steroid hormones, particularly estradiol, during pregnancy and postpartum. This trial aims to evaluate the preventive effect of 3 weeks transdermal estradiol treatment immediately postpartum on depressive episodes in women at high risk for developing postpartum depression.
