Article Synopsis
  • Perivascular epithelioid cell tumors (PEComas) are uncommon tumors with diverse imaging characteristics and treatment approaches.
  • They can occur on their own or as part of conditions like tuberous sclerosis, with some being easily removable while others pose greater treatment challenges.
  • This review aims to present an overview of PEComas, including common types, their epidemiology, appearance in imaging, and available treatment options.

An increase in the incidence and diagnosis of thyroid nodules and thyroid cancer underscores the need for a better approach to nodule detection and risk stratification in ultrasound (US) images that can reduce healthcare costs, patient discomfort, and unnecessary invasive procedures. However, variability in ultrasound technique and interpretation makes the diagnostic process partially subjective. Therefore, an automated approach that detects and segments nodules could improve performance on downstream tasks, such as risk stratification.

Article Synopsis
  • Tumor Treating Fields (TTFields) therapy is a cancer treatment that uses electric fields, approved by the FDA in 2015 for a type of brain cancer called glioblastoma.
  • Research showed that patients using TTFields along with standard treatments lived longer than those who only received standard treatments.
  • In studies, patients who used the TTFields device at least 75% of the time had even better chances of living longer.

Purpose: Tumor Treating Fields (TTFields) are electric fields that disrupt cellular processes critical for cancer cell viability and tumor progression, ultimately leading to cell death. TTFields therapy is approved for treatment of newly-diagnosed glioblastoma (GBM) concurrent with maintenance temozolomide (TMZ). Recently, the benefit of TMZ in combination with lomustine (CCNU) was demonstrated in patients with O-methylguanine DNA methyltransferase (MGMT) promoter methylation.
