Home-built equipment will be presented able to measure the thermal expansion (with a flat indenter) and indentation depth (with a pointed indenter) up to 1100 °C. In dilatometer mode, the allotropic phase transformations can be studied. For hardness, a Rockwell-type measurement is adopted.

Clinical and radiological evaluations were conducted in patients with high energy Nd : glass laser-treated dental implants. These patients underwent dental implantation surgery between 1997 and 2006. Strict success criteria were used for the examination and analysis of implants.

Pulse laser deposition (PLD) was used to deposit Mn containing calcium hydroxyapatite (HAMn). The PLD process ensures that the composition of the target and the deposited layer is the same. In some cases additional effort should be made to preserve some volatile components, namely OH.

In the present study the biological value of the laser prepared titanium implants has been investigated. Screw-type implants with different surface modifications were placed into the femurs of rabbits. Removal torque measurements and histological examinations were prepared.
