Peltogasterella gracilis (Cirripedia: Rhizocephala), a crustacean parasite of hermit crabs, displays genotypic sex determination. Its larvae are planktonic, and female larvae settle on the host. Subsequently, the females control the host's behavior by spreading a root-like structure called "the interna" within the host's body, and form sacs containing eggs called "the externae" outside the host's body.

Background: Exposure to anticancer drugs is hazardous and may lead to chromosomal abnormalities and spontaneous abortion in healthcare workers. Guidelines recommend surface decontamination and cleaning in order to minimize the occupational exposure to anticancer drugs, although no single process has been found to deactivate all currently available hazardous drugs. Ozone gas is oxidative and a decontaminant for bacteria; its characteristic as a gas has advantages in that it does not need to be wiped off or neutralized after use.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examines how drifting plankton from a reservoir affects downstream food webs and community structures in rivers, particularly within 10 kilometers of a dam.
  • Using isotopes and a mixing model, researchers found that plankton contributed significantly to the diets of certain macroinvertebrates, especially just below the dam, but this contribution dropped off as distance increased.
  • The findings suggest that the presence of drifting plankton can change the energy sources for aquatic communities downstream, with more diverse and abundant collector-filterers and predators being positively linked to higher zooplankton densities in the water.

Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) is an autosomal-dominant disorder characterized by café-au-lait spots, neurofibromas, intertriginous freckles, and Lisch nodules in the iris. Segmental neurofibromatosis is fundamentally a mosaic variant of NF1. A 66-year-old man visited us with bilateral segmental neurofibromatosis (SN) on the torso.
