Social Norms: A Missing Ingredient of Programs Seeking to Foster Women's Agency in Nutrition.

Social expectations play a crucial role in shaping dietary practices among women and children. However, despite significant attention to promoting social and behavioral change in nutrition-focused programs and research, the influence of social norms on women's agency in enhancing nutrition practices is often overlooked. In this perspective, we advocate for a paradigm shift by incorporating a "norms aware" approach.

Characteristics of indoor and outdoor fine particles in heating period at urban, suburban, and rural sites in Harbin, China.

Concurrent indoor-outdoor fine particulate matter (PM) measurements were conducted at urban, suburban, and rural sites in Harbin, a megacity in the northeast of China. Chemical constituents of indoor-outdoor PM were determined. Infiltration factors (F) of all sites were calculated according to the indoor to outdoor (I/O) ratios of PM based on the regression analysis.

[Arterial hypertension in chronic hemodialysis patients at the National Hospital of Niamey Lamordé].

A prospective study was conducted at the department of the National Hospital in Niamey, Niger Lamordé over a period of 12 months (from January 1 to December 31, 2009) on 99 patients on chronic hemodialysis. The purpose of this study was to analyze the epidemiological, clinical, paraclinical and therapeutic aspects of arterial hypertension in this population. The average age was 37 years (range 17 to 65) , the prevalence of arterial hypertension was 61.

Diet-induced dyslipidemia impairs reverse cholesterol transport in hamsters.

Background: Reverse cholesterol transport (RCT) is an anti-atherogenic process by which cholesterol is effluxed from peripheral tissues by high-density lipoprotein (HDL) and returned to the liver for excretion into the bile and faeces. Dyslipidemia is thought to impair RCT through higher triglyceride-rich lipoprotein (TRL), low HDL-cholesterol and higher activity of cholesteryl ester transfer protein (CETP), which transfers cholesteryl esters from HDL to TRL for further hepatic uptake. As CETP pathway would represent a major route in human RCT, we therefore investigated whether diet-induced dyslipidemia impairs RCT in hamster, a CETP-expressing species.
