Article Synopsis
  • This study evaluates a deep-learning, MRI-based auto-contouring tool aimed at improving the speed and accuracy of delineating brain organs at risk during radiotherapy, compared to manual methods.
  • The research involved analyzing data from thirty patients, where both AI-generated contours and manually corrected contours were compared using various accuracy metrics like Dice Similarity Coefficient and mean surface distance.
  • Results indicated that auto-contouring was significantly faster than manual contouring, with good accuracy for larger structures; however, improvements are needed for smaller structures to enhance overall effectiveness in clinical practice.

Light stimulation with precise and complex spatial and temporal modulation is demanded by a series of research fields like visual neuroscience, optogenetics, ophthalmology, and visual psychophysics. We developed a user-friendly and flexible stimulus generating framework (GEARS GPU-based Eye And Retina Stimulation Software), which offers access to GPU computing power, and allows interactive modification of stimulus parameters during experiments. Furthermore, it has built-in support for driving external equipment, as well as for synchronization tasks, via USB ports.

Context: The undercarboxylated form of osteocalcin (ucOC) and osteoprotegerin (OPG) are bone-derived molecules involved in the endocrine crosstalk governing the bone, the adipose tissue and the pancreas. In addition, glucocorticoids are major determinants of both insulin resistance and osteoporosis.

Objective: We aimed to investigate the response of ucOC and OPG to dysglycemia and/or dexamethasone (DXM) in primary human osteoblastic cell (HOC) cultures.

Background: Visfatin is a proinflammatory molecule with possible actions on glucose metabolism. Interactions to bone metabolism and undercarboxylated osteocalcin (uOC) in diabetic patients (T2DP) with diabetic kidney disease (DKD) have not been reported.

Materials And Methods: We included 51 incident T2DP with DKD.

In a field dominated by external beam radiation therapy (EBRT), both the therapeutic and technical possibilities of brachytherapy (BT) are underrated, shadowed by protons and intensity modulated radiotherapy. Decreasing expertise and indications, as well as increasing lack of specific BT training for radiation therapy (RT) residents led to the real need of shortening its learning curve and making it more popular. Developing robotic BT devices can be a way to mitigate the above issues.
