Article Synopsis
  • First-principles molecular dynamics (FPMD) is useful for studying the properties of metal-halide perovskites (MHPs), essential for optoelectronic applications.
  • Most studies use generalized gradient approximation (GGA) functionals for efficiency, but hybrid functionals like PBE0 are needed for accurate results.
  • FPMD simulations on CsPbI using PBE0 show better agreement with experimental data in terms of lattice parameters, electronic properties, and reveal important anharmonic effects in the material's behavior.

Children living in low socioeconomic communities are vulnerable to poor health outcomes, especially when critically ill. The purpose of this study was to investigate the association between socioeconomic status (SES) and illness severity upon pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) admission in children with acute respiratory failure. This secondary analysis of the multicenter Randomized Evaluation of Sedation Titration for Respiratory Failure clinical trial includes children, 2 weeks to 17 years old, mechanically ventilated for acute respiratory failure; specifically, subjects who had parental consent for follow-up and residential addresses that could be matched with census tracts (n = 2006).

Objectives: Socioeconomic factors may impact healthcare resource use and health-related quality of life, but their association with postcritical illness outcomes is unknown. This study examines the associations between socioeconomic status, resource use, and health-related quality of life in a cohort of children recovering from acute respiratory failure.

Design: Secondary analysis of data from the Randomized Evaluation of Sedation Titration for Respiratory Failure clinical trial.

Article Synopsis
  • The study uses advanced theoretical methods like AIMD, DFT, and TD-DFT to analyze how iodoplumbates interact with the γ-butyrolactone (GBL) solvent, which is commonly used in making perovskites.
  • Researchers explore how GBL interacts with lead iodide (PbI) and how this affects its optical properties.
  • The results were validated by comparing theoretical findings with experimental UV-vis absorption spectra and were also compared with other solvents like DMF and DMSO, showing that this research approach could apply to similar systems.

We present the enhanced properties observed in the phase change memory alloy GeSbTe (GST) when doped with arsenic. Although arsenic is known as a toxic element, our observations show that significant improvement can be obtained in GST systems on thermal stability, transition temperature between amorphous and crystalline phases and switching behaviors when doping with arsenic. Though both the GST and arsenic doped GST are amorphous in the as-deposited state, only GST alloy turns to crystalline NaCl-type structure after annealing at 150 °C for 1 h.
