Investigating the effect of ceramic fiber on the mechanical properties of glassphalt.

Glassphalt suffers from performance defects, especially against moisture damage and fatigue cracking. In this research, the performance of glassphalt modified with CF has been evaluated against moisture damage, fatigue cracking and rutting. Based on this, Modified Lottman, Wilhelmy Plate (WP), Indirect Tensile Stiffness Modulus (ITSM), Indirect Tensile Fatigue (ITF), and Repeated Load Axial (RLA) tests have been performed on glassphalt modified with CF.

Analysis of differential gene expression of PBMC for the in vitro detection of drug sensitization.

Background: The detection of drug-specific activation of T cells in the lymphocyte transformation test (LTT) is mainly based on cell proliferation or cytokine secretion. However, the LTT presents with a varying sensitivity and specificity. The aim of our study was to analyse the genome wide gene expression of PBMC to identify drug allergy-specific gene regulation patterns.

Empagliflozin Ameliorates the Oxidative Stress Profile in Type 2 Diabetic Patients with Heart Failure and Reduced Ejection Fraction: Results of a Randomized, Double-blind, Placebo-controlled Study.

Introduction: In the present study, we evaluated the impact of empagliflozin on serum levels of oxidative stress parameters in individuals with type 2 diabetes (T2DM) who also suffer from heart failure with Reduced Ejection Fraction (HFrEF).

Methods: In this prospective, single-center clinical trial, 80 patients with T2DM and HFrEF, stabilized on guideline-directed heart failure therapy and classified as New York Heart Association functional (NYHA) functional classes II or III, were randomized to receive either empagliflozin (10 mg/daily) or a matching placebo for a duration of 12 weeks. Serum levels of malondialdehyde (MDA), along with the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GPx), were measured at baseline and after the 12-week treatment period.

Multilocular subcutaneous bacillary angiomatosis as a primary manifestation of AIDS.

A 34-year-old male patient presented with a clinical picture of multilocular subcutaneous skin nodules in addition to marked lymphadenopathy and general physical deterioration. A comprehensive diagnostic workup including serology, skin biopsy and imaging studies led to the initial diagnosis of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection in AIDS stage with rare multilocular subcutaneous bacillary angiomatosis (BA) caused by Bartonella henselae. BA describes a process of neovascularisation of the skin or of internal organs (particularly the liver and spleen) and was first described in HIV-positive patients by Stoler et al.
