Unlabelled: This assessment was designed to explore and characterize the airborne particles, especially for the sub-micrometer sizes, in an underground coal mine. Airborne particles present in the breathing zone were evaluated by using both (1) direct reading real-time instruments (RTIs) to measure real-time particle number concentrations in the workplaces and (2) gravimetric samplers to collect airborne particles to obtain mass concentrations and conduct further characterizations. Airborne coal mine particles were collected via three samplers: inhalable particle sampler (37 mm cassette with polyvinyl chloride (PVC) filter), respirable dust cyclone (10 mm nylon cyclone with 37 mm Zefon cassette and PVC filter), and a Tsai diffusion sampler (TDS).

Background: Congenital early onset scoliosis (C-EOS) often co-occurs with tethered spinal cord syndrome (TSCS), necessitating surgical intervention to address both conditions to prevent worsening neuromuscular function. Detethering can be done concurrently with spinal deformity correction (SDC), before SDC, or not done at all. This study explores perioperative complications in C-EOS patients with and without TSCS who underwent SDC with growing instrumentation or fusion.

Neoadjuvant therapy, particularly the combination of chemotherapy and immunotherapy, has become standard in treating locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). While this approach improves pathologic responses, its effect on postoperative outcomes following robotic-assisted thoracic surgery (RATS) is not fully characterized. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of neoadjuvant therapy on postoperative outcomes in patients undergoing RATS for NSCLC, focusing on operative time, conversion rates to open surgery, and postoperative complications.

Article Synopsis
  • Canine distemper virus (CDV) leads to serious health issues in dogs, particularly affecting the central nervous system, but little is known about how certain biomarkers relate to the disease.
  • The study aimed to compare serum biomarkers between 10 dogs infected with CDV and 10 healthy dogs and to analyze correlations between serum and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) biomarkers.
  • Results showed that certain inflammatory cytokines and antioxidant levels were significantly higher in dogs with CDV, and specific cytokines in CSF were correlated with those in serum, suggesting these could assist in diagnosing neurological involvement in CDV infections.

Non-bovine dairy animals, commonly referred to as non-traditional dairy species, include goats, sheep, yaks, buffalo, donkeys, alpacas, llamas, and other less commonly farmed species. These animals have been integral to livestock systems since ancient times, providing milk and other essential products. Despite their historical significance, dairy production from many of these species remains predominantly confined to rural areas in developing countries, where scientific advancements and technical improvements are often limited.
