Human diseases with similar phenotypes can be interconnected through shared biological pathways, genes, or molecular mechanisms. Inherited retinal diseases (IRDs) cause photoreceptor dysfunction due to mutations in approximately 300 genes, affecting visual transduction, photoreceptor morphogenesis, and transcription factors, suggesting common pathobiological mechanisms. This study examined the functional relationship between known IRDs genes by integrating binding sites and gene expression data from the key photoreceptor transcription factors (TFs), Crx and Nrl.

The Warburg effect is the most well-characterized metabolic alteration, driving cancer cells to catabolize glucose through aerobic glycolysis to promote proliferation. Another prominent metabolic hallmark of cancer cells is their increased reliance on glutamine to replenish tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle intermediates essential for ATP production, aspartate and fatty acid synthesis, and maintaining redox homeostasis.

Given its protracted growth, ACC is usually diagnosed in advanced stage. Treatment of ACC is limited to surgery and/or adjuvant radiotherapy, which often fails to prevent disease recurrence, and no FDA-approved targeted therapies are currently available.

Background: Rich data on diverse patients and their treatments and outcomes within Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems can be used to generate real world evidence. A health recommender system (HRS) framework can be applied to a decision support system application to generate data summaries for similar patients during the clinical encounter to assist physicians and patients in making evidence-based shared treatment decisions.
Objective: A human-centered design (HCD) process was used to develop a HRS for treatment decision support in orthopaedic medicine, the Informatics Consult for Individualized Treatment (I-C-IT).
