Keeping blood pressure in a target range is crucial to reduce the risk of LVAD complications. As current assessment methods require trained personnel resulting in infrequent monitoring, devices for home-based measurements are sorely needed.

During the fill period, oxygen penetration may be undesirable since heterotrophic and autotrophic organisms cause a reduction in the readily biodegradable carbon source (rbCOD). This carbon source is essential and often limited in the anaerobic and anoxic periods.
