Aim: Rheumatic heart disease (RHD), a consequence of acute rheumatic fever (ARF), continues to cause significant morbidity and mortality in susceptible young people. Secondary antibiotic prophylaxis is an effective strategy to prevent ARF recurrence and RHD progression. However, the proportion of patients receiving the recommended minimum benzathine penicillin injections (>80%) remains low.

Fluorosis disease can be prevented by the defluoridated water. Hence, the present work focused on the fabrication of hybrid materials using graphene oxide (GO) and Ce-based metal organic frameworks namely cerium fumarate (Ce-Fu) which gives GO/Ce-Fu for defluoridation of water. Further, the powdered GO/Ce-Fu was dispersed with alginate (Alg) and chitosan (CS) biopolymeric matrixes to give GO/Ce-Fu/Alg-CS biopolymeric hybrid beads for defluoridation investigations.

Article Synopsis
  • A woman in her late 20s was found unresponsive at home, and a selfie sent to her mother showed symptoms before her collapse.
  • Initial brain scans appeared normal, but a CT angiogram indicated a critical basilar artery thrombosis, leading to timely treatment including thrombolysis and endovascular thrombectomy.
  • Further investigation revealed a patent foramen ovale causing a paradoxical embolism, raising discussions on identifying causes of rapid neurological decline and the necessary diagnostic steps.

Enhancing crop yield to accommodate the ever-increasing world population has become critical, and diminishing arable land has pressured current agricultural practices. Intensive farming methods have been using more pesticides and insecticides (biocides), culminating in soil deposition, negatively impacting the microbiome. Hence, a deeper understanding of the interaction and impact of pesticides and insecticides on microbial communities is required for the scientific community.
