Goiter in Cross Breed Goat Kids at Basrah Province, Iraq.

Cases of Goiter related to iodine deficiency in cross-breed goat kids in Basrah, Iraq are very scarce, and little information has been provided; therefore, the present study highlighted a clinical case of goat kids suffering from Goiter due to iodine deficiency with hematological and biochemical evaluation. The study examined 44 cross-breed goat kids, 1-3 months old (males and females), who showed painless palpable enlargement on one side of the cranio-ventral neck region or near the throat rejoin with weakness and alopecia. Ten clinically healthy kids of the same age were considered a control group.

Impact of Cognitive Dysfunction in the Middle East Depressed Patients: The ICMED Study.

Background: Major depressive disorder is a common condition with a high rate of recurrence, chronicity, and affecting economic burden, including disability in the workplace, which leads to negative consequences on both individuals and society.

Objectives: This study aimed to estimate the impact of cognitive dysfunction, as declared by the patient, on performing daily tasks/activities among patients with major depression disorder (MDD).

Methods: This investigation is based on multinational cross-sectional survey of 499 workers recruited from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) and United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The role of attachment style and depression in patients with hepatitis C.

Patients infected with chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) commonly suffer from the triad of depression, pain and fatigue. This symptom triad in HCV is likely influenced by additional psychological and interpersonal factors, although the relationship is not clearly understood. This retrospective study aimed to characterize the relationship between attachment style and depressive and physical symptoms in the HCV-infected population.

A comparison of depression screening instruments in hepatitis C and the impact of depression on somatic symptoms.

Objective: Treatment of hepatitis C (HCV) with pegylated interferon-alpha (IFNα) can cause depression in approximately 30% of patients and underscores the need for effective detection of depression prior to and during IFNα treatment. Elevated rates of depression in untreated HCV can be a barrier to initiating HCV therapy and can impact fatigue and physical symptoms. In this preliminary study, we examined the accuracy of the seven-item Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAM-7) and Patient Health Questionnairre-9 (PHQ-9) in detecting depression in HCV-infected patients and determined the effect of major depression on somatic symptoms.
