Introduction: The incidence of cognitive compromise in systemic lupus erythematosus is variable; it presents early and is usually asymptomatic. Our study evaluated the frequency of cognitive impairment in patients without a previous diagnosis of neuropsychiatric lupus and compared the differences in intracerebral size in subgroups with cognitive alterations and positive autoantibodies.

They Will Come, You Must Build It: A Modified Delphi Process Applied to Preparing Acute Care Facilities Infrastructure for High-Consequence Infectious Diseases.

Patients with suspected or confirmed high-consequence infectious diseases (HCIDs) may present for care at any acute care facility. However, there are limited data to inform recommendations for the design, maintenance, and operation of isolation spaces for patients with suspected or confirmed HCIDs. To address this gap, we developed consensus statements by convening a group of 29 subject matter experts to participate in a modified Delphi process facilitated by a validated tool (the RAND-developed ExpertLens system).

Perylene-derivative singlet exciton fission in water solution.

We provide direct evidence of singlet fission occurring with water-soluble compounds. We show that perylene-3,4,9,10-tetracarboxylate forms dynamic dimers in aqueous solution, with lifetimes long enough to allow intermolecular processes such as singlet fission. As these are transient dimers rather than stable aggregates, they retain a significant degree of disorder.

Context: The reaction force constant ( ), introduced by Professor Alejandro Toro-Labbé, plays a pivotal role in characterizing the reaction pathway by assessing the curvature of the potential energy profile along the intrinsic reaction coordinate. This study establishes a novel link between and the reactivity descriptors of conceptual density functional theory (c-DFT). Specifically, we derive expressions that relate the reaction force constant to nuclear softness and variations in chemical potential.
