Aims: The potential of mechanistic biomarkers to improve prediction of drug-induced liver injury (DILI) and hepatic regeneration is widely acknowledged. We sought to determine reference intervals for new biomarkers of DILI and regeneration, as well as to characterize their natural variability and impact of diurnal variation.

Methods: Serum samples from 227 healthy volunteers were recruited as part of a cross-sectional study; of these, 25 subjects had weekly serial sampling over 3 weeks, while 23 had intensive blood sampling over a 24h period.

Background/objectives: Pattern glare, associated with cortical hyperexcitability, induces visual distortions and discomfort, particularly in individuals susceptible to migraines or epilepsy. While previous research has primarily focused on transient EEG responses to patterned stimuli, this study aims to investigate how continuous presentation of pattern-glare stimuli affects neural adaptation over both fine (seconds) and coarse (entire experiment) temporal scales.

Methods: EEG recordings were obtained from 40 healthy participants exposed to horizontal square-wave gratings at three spatial frequencies presented continuously for three seconds each across multiple trials.

Objectives: Isolated rupture of the lateral collateral ligament (LCL) of the knee is extremely rare in professional football, and there is a paucity of literature describing the rehabilitation for this injury. This case report demonstrates the use of a return-to-performance (RTP) pathway that is time-independent, has clear criteria, and progressive phases to help inform decisions made by a multidisciplinary team (MDT).

Methods: A 25-year-old professional footballer sustained an isolated LCL rupture following a tackle by an opposing player, forcing his knee into excessive varus motion.

Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a neuromuscular disorder of mainly early onset and variable severity. Prior to the introduction of disease modifying therapies (DMTs), children with SMA type 1 typically died before 2 years of age and management was primarily palliative. Onasemnogene abeparvovec (OA), nusinersen, and risdiplam are novel DMTs which ameliorate the effects of the underlying genetic defect at least partially making SMA a treatable condition.
