Pharmacokinetics and residual behaviour in milk of oxytetracycline in cows following administration of uterine pessaries.

The plasma kinetics and residual depletion in milk of cows treated by the intrauterine route with pessaries containing oxytetracycline (OTC) were evaluated. The antibiotic was administered to five healthy Friesian cows at a dosage of 3g/head in the early post partum phase. Blood samples were collected before and at different time intervals (3, 6, 12, 24, 48, 72, 84, and 96 h) after treatment.

Fibrous dysplasia of the temporal bone: reversal of sensorineural hearing loss after decompression of the internal auditory canal.

When fibrous dysplasia affects the temporal bone, it most often presents with conductive hearing loss attributable to stenosis of the external auditory canal. Sensorineural hearing loss has usually been attributed to involvement of the otic capsule. We present a patient with bilateral fibrous dysplasia of the temporal bones who complained of unilateral hearing loss, facial tingling, and facial twitching.

Use of Masking for Tinnitus.

The use of masking for tinnitus has been a primary method of treatment of patients with severe tinnitus since 1976. Over 5,000 patients have been treated in the Tinnitus Clinic at Oregon Health Sciences University since that time. The paper discusses the results of management of new patients followed for one year from January 1, 1992 through December 31, 1995.

Use of alprazolam for relief of tinnitus. A double-blind study.

Objective: To systematically test the effectiveness of alprazolam as a pharmacological agent for patients with tinnitus.

Design: Prospective, placebo-controlled, double-blind study.

Patients: Forty adult patients with constant tinnitus who had experienced their tinnitus for a minimum of 1 year and who resided in the Portland, Ore, metropolitan area.
