Alzheimers Dement
December 2024
Background: NIAGADS is a national genomics data repository that facilitates access of genotypic and sequencing data to qualified investigators for the study of the genetics of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and related neurological diseases. Collaborations with large consortia and centers such as the Alzheimer's Disease Genetics Consortium (ADGC), Cohorts for Heart and Aging Research in Genomic Epidemiology (CHARGE) Consortium, the Alzheimer's Disease Sequencing Project (ADSP), and the Genome Center for Alzheimer's Disease (GCAD) allow NIAGADS to lead the effort in managing large AD datasets that can be easily accessed and fully utilized by the research community.
Method: NIAGADS is supported by the National Institute on Aging (NIA) under a cooperative agreement.
Background: Understanding COVID-19 vaccine effectiveness (VE) in preventing severe disease is critical to inform vaccine policy. We used the test-negative design to estimate VE against SARS-CoV-2-confirmed hospitalisation in adults ≥18 years in the eastern WHO European Region.
Methods: We included patients hospitalised for severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) at sentinel surveillance sites in Albania, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, North Macedonia, Serbia, and in Kosovo.
Bhasan Char has undergone noteworthy transformations in its geographical characteristics since its emergence in 2003. Driven by sediment transported by the Ganges-Brahmaputra-Meghna river system, the island has gradually transitioned from a stretched-out configuration to a more rounded shape primarily due to continuous accretion, while erosion has been minimal since 2012. Currently, the island is being prepared to accommodate over 1 million Forcefully Displaced Myanmar Nationals (FDMN) refugees.

Loss of the alpha-thalassemia/mental retardation, X-linked (ATRX) chromatin remodeller is a common event in ALT-positive cancers, but is generally insufficient to drive ALT induction in isolation. We previously demonstrated that ATRX binds to the MRN complex, which is also known to be important in the ALT pathway, but the molecular basis of this interaction remained elusive.

The mevalonate pathway uses three moles of acetyl-CoA, and therefore native pathways which metabolize acetyl-CoA compete with mevalonate synthesis. Moreover, the final step in mevalonate formation, mediated by hydroxymethylglutaryl-CoA reductase, requires NADPH as a co-substrate.
