A seven-month-old male blue and yellow macaw () was presented with an inability to move the maxillary beak after flying into a clothesline. Unsuccessful attempts to reduce the beak were performed, first by the owner at home and later within the same day by the referring veterinarian under general anesthesia. The patient was referred for assessment and treatment 5 days later.

A total of 90 files, Reciproc NiTi M-Wire (REC) (n = 30), WaveOne Gold (WOG) (n = 30), and Reciproc Blue (RB) (n = 30) were activated under constant irrigation with 1% NaOCl at 5, 37, and 60 °C in a stainless-steel artificial canal (curvature angle = 60°; radius = 5 mm). The time to the fracture and the maximum and minimum load were recorded for each instrument, and data were subjected to statistical analysis.

To identify molecular changes early in the disease course and distinguish PD pathologies from aging, we generated Drosophila expressing alpha-synuclein (αSyn) in neurons and performed longitudinal bulk transcriptomics and proteomics on brains at six time points across the lifespan and compared the data to healthy control flies as well as human post-mortem brain datasets. We found that translational and energy metabolism pathways were downregulated in αSyn flies at the earliest timepoints; comparison with the aged control flies suggests that elevated αSyn accelerates changes associated with normal aging.

Methods: This was a prospective observational study including 26 eyes of 26 patients (age range: 58 to 88 years) who underwent cataract surgery with implantation of the LuxSmart toric IOL (Bausch & Lomb GmbH). Changes in distance, intermediate (80 cm), and near (40 cm) visual acuities, manifest refraction, defocus curve, distance photopic contrast sensitivity (CSV-1000 test), and patient-reported outcomes (Catquest-9SF questionnaire) were evaluated during a 3-month follow-up.
The association between acromegaly and cancer had been assessed mainly in population studies with inconsistent results. The objective of this study was to investigate the risk of cancer in a large cohort of patients with acromegaly compared with matched controls. The comprehensive computerized database of the largest healthcare provider organization in Israel was searched for patients diagnosed with acromegaly in 2000-2021.
