Aging decreases sleep quality by disrupting the molecular machinery that regulates the circadian rhythm. However, we do not fully understand the mechanism that underlies this process. In , sleep quality is regulated by precisely timed patterns of spontaneous firing activity in posterior DN1 (DN1p) circadian clock neurons.

Introduction: The Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) convened a Nurse Practitioner (NP) Validation Work Team and conducted a Delphi study to verify and gain consensus on professional and clinical competencies for NPs in emergency care. This document describes entry-level competencies for NPs practicing in emergency care, regardless of setting.

Methods: A Delphi study was conducted from September 2007 to May 2008 with a national sample of credentialed NPs in emergency care.

The pharmacokinetics and metabolism of reparixin (formerly repertaxin), a potent and specific inhibitor of the chemokine CXCL8, were investigated in rats and dogs after intravenous administration of [14C]-reparixin L-lysine salt. Protein binding of reparixin was investigated in vitro in rat, dog, rabbit, cynomolgus monkey and human plasma. Plasma protein binding of reparixin was >99% in the laboratory animals and humans up to 50 microg ml-1, but lower at higher concentrations.

1. Mean concentrations of total (14)C and of dexloxiglumide at the end of single 20-min infusion doses of (14)C-dexloxiglumide (200 mg) to four healthy male subjects were 18.5 microg eq x ml(-1) and 19.

A sensitive bioanalytical method for the measurement of dexloxiglumide, a new selective and potent cholecystokinin type-1 (CCK(1)) receptor antagonist, in plasma, is reported. The method is based on reversed-phase liquid chromatography with ultraviolet absorption detection. Samples are extracted under acidic conditions into an organic solvent, and following evaporation, reconstitution and centrifugation stages, the supernatant is injected on to an ODS column with detection at 244 nm.
