Postoperative atrial fibrillation following cardiac surgery in severe obesity: the added value of waist circumference.

Introduction: Obesity is an independent risk factor for postoperative atrial fibrillation (POAF) after coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) surgery. POAF in patients with severe obesity (body mass index [BMI] ≥ 35 kg/m) is less studied. Whether waist circumference (WC) improves prediction of POAF independently of BMI among patients with severe obesity remains unknown.

Background: Recently, our research team developed an open source and free website called the MEPP website (for the Mirror Effect Plus Protocol) to efficiently provide mirror therapy for patients with facial palsy. Previous studies demonstrated that the first version of the MEPP website improved user experience and likely optimized patients' performance during facial therapy. Nevertheless, compliance was found to be low despite a generally positive opinion of the website, and in light of our earlier findings, MEPP 2.

Synthesis, Characterization, and Biological Evaluation of -Methyl Derivatives of Norbelladine.

Norbelladine derivatives have garnered attention in recent years due to their diverse biological activities and pivotal role in the biosynthetic pathway of Amaryllidaceae alkaloids. This study reports the synthesis and biological evaluation of four O,-methylated derivatives of norbelladine. These derivatives were synthesized through a three-step process: forming imine intermediates from benzaldehydes with tyramine, hydrogenating them to secondary amines, and -methylating these amines.
