Background: In response to the dual public health emergencies of COVID-19 and the overdose crisis, the Government of British Columbia (BC) introduced risk mitigation prescribing, or prescribed safer supply. In the context of colonialism and racism, Indigenous people are disproportionately impacted by substance use harms and experience significant barriers to receiving care, particularly those living in rural and remote communities. As part of a larger provincial evaluation, we sought to assess the implementation of risk mitigation prescribing as experienced by Indigenous people who use drugs (IPWUD) in Northern BC.

Vaccines are lifesaving interventions that reduce the morbidity and mortality of disease. Fortunately, serious adverse events with vaccination are uncommon, but they must promptly be recognized and evaluated to assess and clarify the safety of future administration, a process that the public must understand in order to feel safe in receiving vaccines. In this article, we provide a review of vaccine development, discuss the process by which safety is ensured, and describe key adverse events associated with their administration.

There is limited information published on the condition in STB racehorses and limited information on factors associated with return to racing available for either breed.
Methods: This study investigated and compared the pre surgical findings, post-surgical complications and racing performance in STBs and TBs undergoing surgery for correction of EE.
Sensitive and specific antemortem diagnostic tests are a prerequisite for effective management of chronic wasting disease (CWD). Paired with readily accessible samples that accurately reflect CWD status, the real-time quaking-induced conversion (RT-QuIC) assay has the potential to enable more effective CWD surveillance and interventions. We evaluated the feasibility of RT-QuIC as a CWD diagnostic test using 6-mm ear tissue biopsies from elk (Cervus canadensis).
View Article and Find Full Text PDFThis study explores the vapochromic and vapoluminescent behaviors of [Pt(tpy)Cl]PF host molecules (tpy = 2,2':6',2''-terpyridine) under acetonitrile (CHCN) vapor guest, challenging the conventional view that these phenomena arise solely from direct host-guest interactions. Our findings reveal a cooperative mechanism where mechanochromic surface perturbations prime the Pt(II) host for guest incorporation, leading to initial color and luminescence changes prior to significant structural alterations. While the color transition between the yellow [Pt(tpy)Cl]PF form and the red/orange [Pt(tpy)Cl]PF·CHCN form is reversible, repeated vapor cycling induces a loss of crystallinity, as indicated by diffraction peak broadening and emission shifts.
