Despite the increasing awareness about biotin interference with immunoassays, so far, only two studies have quantified the prevalence of elevated biotin in patient populations. In a US study, over 7% had biotin concentrations exceeding 10 ng/mL, whereas in an Australian study only 0.8% of ED samples contained biotin exceeding 10 ng/mL.

Multicenter randomized controlled trial to evaluate the efficacy and tolerability of frozen gloves for the prevention of chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy.

Background: This study investigated the efficacy and tolerability of wearing frozen gloves (FGs) during chemotherapy to prevent chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) as reported by patients and influence on quality of life (QoL).

Patients And Methods: Cancer patients starting treatment with oxaliplatin, docetaxel or paclitaxel between February 2013 and May 2016 at the medical oncology department were eligible. Patients were randomized into groups wearing FGs on both hands during treatment and those not wearing FGs during treatment.

The aim of this analysis is to assess (1) self-reported chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) symptoms; (2) its association with sociodemographic and clinical characteristics; and (3) treatment dose modifications and its influence on the magnitude of neurotoxicity in a population-based cohort of patients with multiple myeloma (MM). MM patients (n = 156), diagnosed between 2000 and 2014, filled out the EORTC QLQ-CIPN20 (65% response). Data on treatment, outcomes, and dose modifications were extracted from the medical files.

Objective: Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) is a debilitating side-effect of chemotherapy. However, CIPN symptoms are also reported by patients not receiving chemotherapy. Normative data could help interpret CIPN among cancer patients.
