The use of traditional nicotine delivery products such as tobacco has long been linked to detrimental health effects. However, little work to date has focused on the emerging market of aerosolized nicotine delivery known as electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS) or electronic cigarettes, and their potential for new effects on human health. Challenges studying these devices include heterogeneity in the formulation of the common components of most available ENDS, including nicotine and a carrier (commonly composed of propylene glycol and vegetable glycerin, or PG/VG).

Atrial fibrillation in cancer, anticancer therapies, and underlying mechanisms.

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is a common arrhythmic complication in cancer patients and can be exacerbated by traditional cytotoxic and targeted anticancer therapies. Increased incidence of AF in cancer patients is independent of confounding factors, including preexisting myocardial arrhythmogenic substrates, type of cancer, or cancer stage. Mechanistically, AF is characterized by fast unsynchronized atrial contractions with rapid ventricular response, which impairs ventricular filling and results in various symptoms such as fatigue, chest pain, and shortness of breath.

Since the earliest investigations of olefin metathesis catalysis, light has been the choice for controlling the catalyst activity on demand. From the perspective of energy efficiency, temporal and spatial control, and selectivity, photochemistry is not only an attractive alternative to traditional thermal manufacturing techniques but also arguably a superior manifold for advanced applications like additive manufacturing (AM). In the last three decades, pioneering work in the field of ring-opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) has broadened the scope of material properties achievable through AM, particularly using light as both an activating and deactivating stimulus.

CHOICES for sickle cell reproductive health: A protocol of a randomized preconception intervention model for a single gene disorder.

Our long-term goal is to foster genetically informed reproductive health knowledge and behaviors among young adults with sickle cell disease (SCD) or sickle cell trait (SCT) with a web-based, tailored, multimedia intervention called CHOICES. CHOICES is designed to help young adults with SCD or SCT preconception to gain knowledge of genetic inheritance, specify their reproductive health intentions (their parenting plan), and engage in reproductive health behaviors concordant with their parenting plan. In a previous study, we found high acceptability of both the e-Book (usual care control) and CHOICES interventions.

Cost considerations for implementing dignity therapy in palliative care: Insights and implications.

Objectives: Despite the clinical use of dignity therapy (DT) to enhance end-of-life experiences and promote an increased sense of meaning and purpose, little is known about the cost in practice settings. The aim is to examine the costs of implementing DT, including transcriptions, editing of legacy document, and dignity-therapists' time for interviews/patient's validation.

Methods: Analysis of a prior six-site, randomized controlled trial with a stepped-wedge design and chaplains or nurses delivering the DT.
