With the rationale that the oxidative potential of particulate matter (PM-OP) may induce oxidative stress and inflammation, we conducted the ASTHMA-FENOP study in which 44 asthmatic patients and 37 matched controls wore a personal sampler for 24 h, allowing the collection of fine and coarse PM fractions separately, to determine PM-OP by the dithiothreitol (DTT) and ascorbic acid (AA) methods. The levels of Interleukin 6 (IL-6) and the IL-6/IL-10 ratio, as indicators of pro- and anti-inflammatory statuses, were determined by calculating the mean differences (MDs), odds ratios (ORs) and p-trends adjusted for sex, age, study level and body mass index. Positive associations for IL-6 levels in the form of adjusted MDs and ORs were obtained for all PM-OP metrics, reaching statistical significance for both OP-DTT and OP-AA in the fine fraction, with adjusted OR = 5.

Purpose: To propose a simplified histological classification for core-needle biopsy (CNB) of thyroid nodules with four diagnostic categories (DC) and provide the risk of malignancy (ROM) and the expected incidence for each DC. There is no uniform scheme for categorizing CNB specimens, except for a Korean diagnostic classification similar to the Bethesda system for FNAC.
Methods: Data from a single institution using CNB as a routine diagnostic tool for thyroid nodules.
The hippocampus (HC) is recognized for its pivotal role in memory-related plasticity and facilitating adaptive behavioral responses to reward shifts. However, the nature of its involvement in the response to reward downshifts remains to be determined. To bridge this knowledge gap, we explored the HC's function through a series of experiments in various tasks involving reward downshifts and using several neural manipulations in rats.

Acellular OP assays are the most used worldwide, mainly those based on ascorbic acid (AA) and dithiothreitol (DTT) depletion; OP values are calculated from AA/DTT concentration over time kinetic curves. Since a great variability in OP-DTT and OP-AA values can be found in the literature, the understanding of those factors affecting the kinetic rate of AA and DTT oxidation in the presence of PM-bound species will improve the interpretation of OP values.
