Background And Aims: The absence of a modern plant-based 'dicotyledon' phytolith reference baseline impedes the accurate interpretation of fossil phytolith records in archaeological and palaeoecological research within North-western Europe. This study aims to fill this gap by documenting and analysing the phytolith record from modern dicotyledon taxa occurring in this region.

Methods: Phytoliths were extracted from several plant parts of 117 plant specimens representing 74 species (1-2 specimens/species).

This article describes the synthesis of a difluorinated CinNapht derivative in the 4' and 5' positions allowing the easy access to two new families of fluorophores by late-stage functionalization using SNAr. The first one comprises derivatives incorporating hindered aromatic amines in the 4' and 5' positions, which show red-emission in apolar solvents. The second one is obtained through the use of dinucleophiles.

Background: Azithromycin and methylprednisolone are two medications that are commonly used in patients who require ECMO support. Unfortunately, ECMO support can decrease drug concentrations through adsorption to circuit components. Such interactions have not been well described for either azithromycin or methylprednisolone.

Background: Patients supported with extracorporeal life support (ECLS) circuits such as ECMO and CRRT often require high doses of sedatives and analgesics, including ketamine and dexmedetomidine. Concentrations of many medications are affected by ECLS circuits through adsorption to the circuit components, dialysis, as well as the large volume of blood used to prime the circuits. However, the impact of ECLS circuits on ketamine and dexmedetomidine pharmacokinetics has not been well described.
