The obtained data confirm the epidemic significance and study complexity of populations with the limited fluorographic capacities, homeless persons and residents of inaccessible settlements of the Far North, as well as the necessity of applying special approaches to delivering antituberculous aid in these groups. A system has been developed for the epidemiological surveillance and detection of tuberculosis in the populations of increased study complexity and epidemic significance.

The major epidemiological parameters were analyzed in 7 autonomous districts of the Far North of Russia from 1975 to 2002. A new efficient scheme for the isolation and purification of human alpha-fetoprotein from human cord serum was proposed. Sequential chromatography on four columns (Cibacron Blue Sepharose, two metal chelate, and one reversed-phase) helped rapidly prepare alpha-fetoprotein samples of high purity (no less than 98%; purification factor approximately 10(3)) in high yields (approximately 85%).

The paper deals with organizational measures for detection and treatment of homeless persons with tuberculosis in Saint Petersburg.
