[Experience with the treatment of combined open injuries to the upper extremities with affected main arteries].

The paper deals with the principles of management of combined mechanical injuries to the upper extremities with special reference to amputation of their segments based on the 3-year experience with the treatment of 1488 patients including 405 ones with traumatic amputations. Replantation of large and small segments was undertaken in 24 and 76% of the cases respectively. 43% of the patients underwent one-step traumatic amputation of two and more segments.

[Peculiarities of revascularizing operations in traumatic amputations of hand fragments].

The article deals with one of the currently important problems encountered in modern microsurgery, i. e., a possibility of performing restorative operations in complete and incomplete traumatic amputations of hand fragments.

[The role of central lymphadenectomy in treatment of patients with thyroid cancer].

Direct and long-term results of surgical interventions for differentiated cancer of the thyroid gland supplemented with lymphadenectomy on the tumor side were studied on the material of 1136 patients. As a group of comparison there was a group of 303 patients with similar histological diagnoses, gender and age and distribution of carcinomas by stages in which the ablation of para- and pretracheal lymph nodes was not fulfilled by any reasons. The investigation gives proofs of the necessity to perform central lymphadenectomy simultaneously in all primary operations for differentiated cancer of the thyroid gland.

[Synthesis, structures, and acute toxicity of gossypol nonsymmetrical aldehyde derivatives].

Nonsymmetrical aldehyde derivatives of gossypol, a yellow polyphenolic pigment of cottonseed, were synthesized by reactions with ammonia, aniline, 4-aminoantipyrine, and barbituric acid. Their structures were determined by UV spectrophotometry and IR and (1)H NMR spectroscopy methods. Their acute toxicities in white mice were compared with those of gossypol and the corresponding symmetrical analogues.
