Background: Multimodal pain therapy programs are increasingly being recommended as an effective treatment option also for elderly patients with chronic pain. However, data from Germany are limited.

Patients And Methods: A multimodal group program adapted to the specific needs of elderly pain patients over 70 years old (20 treatment days, over 10 weeks) was started in our pain clinic in June 2005.

Summary. Progressive scoliosis with increasing pelvic obliquity in early childhood of patients with SMA type II is a common feature in this disease. Spinal surgery in muscle disorders should be carried out as soon as a progressive curve of more then 20 Celsius Cobb and a preserved FVC of 20-30% is proved.

[Myofascial pain syndrome].

The myofascial pain syndrome is an autonomous clinical picture with well-defined clinical and morphological features. The myofascial pain is initiated through trigger points in the musculature which induce a typical referred pain into a specific body region typical for each muscle. Untreated, the myofascial pain syndrome leads to a reduced extensibility of the involved muscle with consecutive decrease of the range of motion and development of a muscular imbalance resulting in a disturbance of complex movement and evolution of a chronic pain disease.
