Virtual Herbarium ALTB: collection of vascular plants of the Altai Mountain Country.

Background: The herbarium of the South-Siberian Botanical Garden of Altai State University (ALTB) houses the largest collection of plants from the Altai Mountain Country (AMC), an area that extends across Russia, Kazakhstan, Mongolia and China. The collection of ALTB includes more than 450,00 specimens, making it the seventh largest in Russia and the fourth largest amongst Russian university herbaria. Altai State University (ASU), the home of ALTB, is one of the most important centres of academic education and research in Siberia and the Russian Far East.

[The problem of early detection cervical cancer in republic of Kazakhstan].

Conclusion: Nineteenth century anatomical descriptions of the anterior distribution of cranial nerve (CN) IX on the dorsal tongue are contrary to current concepts. By employing Sihler's stain, we demonstrated that, in fact, CN IX projects more anteriorly than the posterior third of the tongue. This may explain why some patients whose chorda tympani branch of CN VII has been severed during middle ear surgery continue to have taste function in sectors of the anterior two-thirds of the tongue.

[Determination of nucleolar organizer activity in the differential diagnosis of transition-cell tumors of the bladder].

Assessment of cells during cytologic diagnosis is based on a complex of morphologic features of the nucleus and nucleolus whose increased polymorphism is characteristic of tumor cells. Introduction in clinical cytology of the nucleoli silvering method permitted assessment of the activity of nucleolar organizers in which ribosomal RNA transcription is carried out determining further growth, maturation, and volume of a cell. Silver ions precipitate at sites of active transcription forming granules which may be analyzed.

[Cytologic diagnosis of mediastinal diseases].

The diagnosis of mediastinal tumors is based on morphological findings, on cytological among other things. Results of cytologic diagnosis of tumors of the anterior mediastinum in 79 patients are analyzed. Malignant thymomas were diagnosed by this method in 41 patients.
