Background: Postoperative agitation is common after non-cardiac surgery. It is associated with postoperative delirium and cognitive dysfunction, leading to prolonged hospital stay and delayed social readjustment. Prevention and treatment strategies are lacking.

Methods: We retrospectively studied 35 patients (25 females, 10 males) with gene mutations or deletion, focusing on their early seizure semiology, the electroencephalogram (EEG) pattern, the effect of treatment, and developmental outcome.
Results: The first seizures were recognizable and consisted of tonic, then clonic, and spasms phases, occurring in sleep at a median age of 6 weeks.
The aggregation of intracellular proteins may be enhanced under stress. The expression of heat-shock proteins (HSPs) and the accumulation of osmolytes are among the cellular protective mechanisms in these conditions. In addition, one should remember that the cell environment is highly crowded.

The combined action of chemical chaperones trehalose, betaine and lysine on stability, aggregation and oligomeric state of muscle glycogen phosphorylase b (Phb) has been studied. Dynamic light scattering data indicate that the affinity of trehalose to Phb increased in the presence of betaine or lysine at both stages (stage of nucleation and aggregate growth) of enzyme aggregation at 48 °C, in contrast, the affinity of betaine to the enzyme in the presence of lysine remained practically unchanged.

Methods: We used the National Inpatient Sample to construct a cohort of hospitalized patients with SLE from 2003-2014. We compared clinical characteristics, in-hospital treatments, outcomes, and resource use between SLE patients with and without TMA.
