Audiological outcomes after revision stapes surgeries: a systematic review.

Purpose: Revision stapes surgery is a challenging procedure performed in relatively small numbers compared to other middle ear procedures. Despite numerous data on hearing results of different middle ear surgeries, the audiological standards for successful outcome of this procedure are still not clarified. On the basis of well-documented data, we wanted to determine what the expected audiological results and complications are after revision stapes surgery in order to set a realistic threshold for surgical success.

Is remdesivir safe in patients with renal impairment? Experience at a large tertiary urban medical center.

Purpose: Remdesivir is FDA-approved for treatment of patients hospitalized with COVID-19 pneumonia, but not recommended in patients with severe renal failure. This study aims to evaluate the safety of remdesivir in this patient population.

Methods: This was a single-center, retrospective cohort study including patients ≥ 18 years old, admitted between May 1, 2020 and April 30, 2021 who received remdesivir.

Objective: To determine whether procalcitonin (PCT) levels are different in infected versus noninfected febrile patients with intracranial hemorrhage (ICH).

Methods: This prospective observational study included 104 patients with ICH and fever >38.3°C admitted to the intensive care unit of a tertiary care hospital.

Clinical Features of Respiratory Viral Infections Among Inpatients at a Major US Tertiary Care Hospital.

Objectives: Respiratory viral illnesses (RVI) are reliably diagnosed by respiratory viral panel using polymerase chain reaction (RVP-PCR); however, owing to the scant data, clinical presentation alone is unreliable in establishing viral etiology. The primary objective of this study was to characterize signs and symptoms of RVI among inpatients in a major tertiary care hospital.

Methods: Between 2013 and 2015, adult inpatients with RVI undergoing RVP-PCR were prospectively enrolled in our study.
