Inhibition of FcRn with rozanolixizumab in adults with immune thrombocytopenia: Two randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled phase 3 studies and their open-label extension.

Primary immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) is an antiplatelet-antibody-mediated disorder with accelerated platelet clearance and decreased platelet production. Rozanolixizumab, a monoclonal IgG4 anti-FcRn antibody, blocks IgG recycling and decreases IgG levels. We report efficacy and safety of rozanolixizumab in adults with persistent/chronic ITP in 24-week phase 3 studies (TP0003; TP0006), and their 52-week open-label extension (OLE).

Mummy of a juvenile sabre-toothed cat Homotherium latidens from the Upper Pleistocene of Siberia.

The frozen mummy of the large felid cub was found in the Upper Pleistocene permafrost on the Badyarikha River (Indigirka River basin) in the northeast of Yakutia, Russia. The study of the specimen appearance showed its significant differences from a modern lion cub of similar age (three weeks) in the unusual shape of the muzzle with a large mouth opening and small ears, the very massive neck region, the elongated forelimbs, and the dark coat color. Tomographic analysis of the mummy skull revealed the features characteristic of Machairodontinae and of the genus Homotherium.

Archaeocytes in sponges: simple cells of complicated fate.

Archaeocytes are considered a key cell type in sponges (Porifera). They are believed to be multifunctional cells performing various functions, from nutrient digestion to acting as adult stem cells (ASCs). Thus, archaeocytes are mentioned in discussions on various aspects of sponge biology.

The hydroxycarboxylic acid receptor HCA2 is required for the protective effect of ketogenic diet in epilepsy.

One third of epilepsy patients are resistant to treatment with current anti-seizure medications. The ketogenic diet is used to treat some forms of refractory epilepsy, but the mechanism of its action has not yet been elucidated. In this study, we aimed to investigate whether the hydroxycarboxylic acid receptor 2 (HCA2), a known immunomodulatory receptor, plays a role in mediating the protective effect of this diet.

Etruscan Wolf Canis etruscus (Canidae, Carnivora) from the Early Pleistocene of Crimea (Taurida Cave).

The cranial and mandibular fragments of the medium-sized canid from the Early Pleistocene locality of Taurida cave (about 1.8-1.5 Ma) in Crimea are described and included in the hypodigm of the species Canis etruscus Forsyth Major, 1877, a common member of the Late Villafranchian fauna of the Circum-Mediterranean region.
