We report on the first injection-seeded nanosecond Ti:Sapphire laser that demonstrates a stable single-longitudinal-mode operation with no feedback loop for active cavity stabilization. The short cavity generates 6-mJ transform-limited pulses at a wavelength of 807 nm and with a slope efficiency of 43%. An intracavity dispersive prism makes a novel cavity design for injection-seeded lasers and provides pre-selection of the emission wavelength.

Studies on white mongrel rats addressed the reorganization of the synaptoarchitectonics of layer I of the cerebral cortex in diffuse-focal injuries. The experiments used models of acute arrest of the systemic circulation (clinical death) resulting from exposure to mechanical asphyxia for 6 min, clamping of the common carotid arteries for 20 min (ischemia), and imposition of sublethal rotatory trauma by the Noble-Collip method (craniocerebral trauma). Electron microscopy and morphometric analysis showed that reductions in the total number density of synapses were accompanied by changes in the relative and absolute contents of the major types of synaptic apparatuses.

Comparative study of the structural and functional state of cerebral cortex of adult albino rats after intracerebral allo- and xenotransplantation of embryonic nervous tissue and intravenous injection of umbilical cord blood-derived stem cells at different terms after diffuse-focal cerebral trauma revealed the best cerebroprotective effect on day 7 of posttraumatic period in animals receiving embryonic nervous tissue.

A new treatment of the well-known Sommerfeld solution of the problem of plane-wave diffraction from a perfectly conducting half-plane is reported. We show, in both theory and experiment, that the diffraction field (E-polarization) can be represented as a superposition of real physically existing waves, in contrast to geometrical and boundary waves postulated in Sommerfeld's representation. Our representation includes two pairs of wave components: one pair propagates along the direction of the incident wave, and the other in a mirror-reflected direction.
