Predicting Mastoid Extension and Complications such as Labyrinthine Fistula and Dural Exposure in Middle Ear Cholesteatoma Using Lesion Size and Detectability on Non-echo-planar Diffusion-weighted MR Imaging.

Purpose: This study aimed to quantitatively evaluate whether non-echoplanar diffusion-weighted MRI (non-EP DWI) lesion size and detectability can predict mastoid extension and complications such as labyrinthine fistula and dural exposure in middle ear cholesteatoma.

Methods: This retrospective study included 120 lesions with surgically confirmed middle ear cholesteatoma. Non-EP DWI was performed within 6 months preoperatively and evaluated for lesion detectability and size measurements, including maximum axial diameter, maximum axial area, and volume.

A Luminescent Stable Triarylmethyl Diradical with an Axially Chiral Spacer.

Two units of a highly stable luminescent triarylmethyl radical (PyBTM) were bridged using a chiral octahydrobinaphthyl moiety, resulting in a diradical with sufficient stability to enable the measurement of its chiroptical properties. To synthesize this diradical, a novel boronic ester radical precursor, αH-PyBTM-B(Epin), was designed. The use of this precursor significantly improved the yield and streamlined the preparation of stable luminescent radical-substituted molecules.

Reduced RG-II pectin dimerization disrupts differential growth by attenuating hormonal regulation.

Defects in cell wall integrity (CWI) profoundly affect plant growth, although, underlying mechanisms are not well understood. We show that in mutant, CWI defects from compromising dimerization of RG-II pectin, a key component of cell wall, attenuate the expression of auxin response factors . As a result, polar auxin transport components are misexpressed, disrupting auxin response asymmetry, leading to defective apical hook development.
