Importance: Hospital wards are often not conducive to patient sleep, negatively affecting patient health and experience.

Objectives: To assess determinants of in-hospital restfulness and to design and test rest-promoting interventions on the wards in partnership with clinicians, staff, and patients.

Design, Setting, And Participants: This rapid-sequential mixed-methods quality improvement study was performed at a large urban academic hospital in St Louis, Missouri, from May 1, 2021, to December 31, 2022, with follow-up through hospitalization.

Genomic structural equation modeling reveals latent phenotypes in the human cortex with distinct genetic architecture.

Genetic contributions to human cortical structure manifest pervasive pleiotropy. This pleiotropy may be harnessed to identify unique genetically-informed parcellations of the cortex that are neurobiologically distinct from functional, cytoarchitectural, or other cortical parcellation schemes. We investigated genetic pleiotropy by applying genomic structural equation modeling (SEM) to map the genetic architecture of cortical surface area (SA) and cortical thickness (CT) for 34 brain regions recently reported in the ENIGMA cortical GWAS.

Classifying frailty in the ventral hernia population.

Introduction: Frailty is increasingly recognized as a preoperative predictor of adverse outcomes following various surgical procedures. Our study aims to compare validated frailty measures in the ventral hernia population, as this is a common elective procedure with a paucity of data regarding frailty prevalence.

Methods: Patients aged 18 years or older with planned ventral hernia repairs were prospectively enrolled in our single-institution study from January 2023 through June 2023.

Intensive Interdisciplinary Rehabilitation in the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Setting: Feasibility and Perceived Benefit of the Acute Neurological Injury Service.

(1) Background: Intensive interdisciplinary rehabilitation services more effectively promote recovery from acquired brain injury than a single discipline approach. However, research literature is lacking regarding the perceived feasibility and utility of an interdisciplinary approach across disciplines for patients within a tertiary care pediatric hematology/oncology setting. (2) Methods: The Acute Neurological Injury (ANI) service applied an acquired brain injury/inpatient rehabilitation interdisciplinary approach to a pediatric hematology/oncology population, with a focus on interdisciplinary communication, shared goal setting, and coordinated transition planning.

End-Tidal CO During Enhanced-View Totally Extraperitoneal Hernia Repair: A Comparison of Retrorectus and Intraperitoneal Insufflation.

Introduction: Although the enhanced-view totally extraperitoneal (eTEP) approach has demonstrated safety, efficacy, and durability for small- to medium-sized hernia repairs, the relationships between retrorectus insufflation, intraoperative respiratory stability, and end-tidal CO (ETCO) levels has not been appraised.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective chart review of patients undergoing elective robotic-assisted ventral hernia repairs at our quaternary academic center from July 2018 through December 2021. Patients were grouped by repair technique, either eTEP or robotic transversus abdominis release (r-TAR).
