Mucosal Bacterial Immunotherapy Attenuates the Development of Experimental Colitis by Reducing Inflammation Through the Regulation of Myeloid Cells.

Ulcerative colitis is a chronic relapsing-remitting and potentially progressive form of inflammatory bowel disease in which there is extensive inflammation and mucosal damage in the colon and rectum as a result of an abnormal immune response. MV130 is a mucosal-trained immunity-based vaccine used to prevent respiratory tract infections in various clinical settings. Additionally, MV130 may induce innate immune cells that acquire anti-inflammatory properties and promote tolerance, which could have important implications for chronic inflammatory diseases such as ulcerative colitis.

Enhancing navigation and obstacle avoidance with a vibrotactile device as secondary electronic travel aid.

People with visual impairments commonly rely on the use of a white cane to navigate and avoid obstacles. Although this analog tool is highly reliable and easy to use, its drawback is the impossibility to anticipate obstacles beyond reach and routes, as well as obstacles above waist level. Electronic travel aids (ETAs) and sensory substitution devices (SSDs) are new technological solutions designed to enhance the tactile and/or auditory capabilities to access the information needed to overcome those drawbacks.

Probing the Mechanical Properties of Porous Nanoshells by Nanoindentation.

In this contribution, we present a study of the mechanical properties of porous nanoshells measured with a nanoindentation technique. Porous nanoshells with hollow designs can present attractive mechanical properties, as observed in hollow nanoshells, but coupled with the unique mechanical behavior of porous materials. Porous nanoshells display mechanical properties that are dependent on shell porosity.

High BMP4 expression in low/intermediate risk BCP-ALL identifies children with poor outcomes.

Pediatric B-cell precursor acute lymphoblastic leukemia (BCP-ALL) outcome has improved in the last decades, but leukemic relapses are still one of the main problems of this disease. Bone morphogenetic protein 4 (BMP4) was investigated as a new candidate biomarker with potential prognostic relevance, and its pathogenic role was assessed in the development of disease. A retrospective study was performed with 115 pediatric patients with BCP-ALL, and BMP4 expression was analyzed by quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction in leukemic blasts at the time of diagnosis.
