Previous research has shown that smoking tobacco is associated with changes or differences in brain volume and cortical thickness, resulting in a smaller brain volume and decreased cortical thickness in smokers compared with non-smokers. However, the effects of smokeless tobacco on brain volume and cortical thickness remain unclear. This study aimed to investigate whether the use of shammah, a nicotine-containing smokeless tobacco popular in Middle Eastern countries, is associated with differences in brain volume and thickness compared with non-users and to assess the influence of shammah quantity and type on these effects.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study explored how different surface treatments affect the bond strength of zirconia with varying yttria contents, using methods like airborne-particle abrasion (APA) and selective infiltration etching (SIE) among others.
  • - Results showed that all treated zirconia specimens had higher bond strength compared to untreated ones, with APA being the most effective across all types of zirconia tested.
  • - While Zolid Zi (4.5-5.6 wt% yttrium) exhibited the highest bond strength, Zolid FX (9.15-9.55 wt% yttrium) had the lowest, indicating that both treatment method and material type significantly influence bond strength and surface roughness.

Background: Limited evidence suggested different outcomes of surface treatment methods on zirconia abutments and crowns. Therefore, we investigated the effect of grooving, hot etching, and airborne particle abrasion (APA) methods on zirconia crowns over Ti-base zirconia abutments retention and fracture strength.

Materials And Methods: In this study, 110 zirconia crowns and abutments were divided into five groups, including APA for crown and grooved zirconia abutment (APACr-GrAb), APA for crown and hot etching zirconia abutment (APACr-HtAb), grooved modified zirconia crown and APA for zirconia abutments (GrCr-APAAb), hot etching modified zirconia crown and APA for zirconia abutments (HtCr-APAAb), and APA for both crown and zirconia abutments (control group).

Sickle cell disease is a genetic disorder characterised by abnormal haemoglobin production. This study aims to investigate the associations between haematological and inflammatory biomarkers and brain volumes in patients with sickle cell anaemia and compare brain structure between patients with sickle cell anaemia and healthy controls. This retrospective cross-sectional study included 130 participants (70 sickle cell anaemia patients and 60 healthy controls) who underwent brain MRI examinations at King Fahad Central Hospital between January 2010 and October 2022.

Background Interventional radiology (IR) utilizes minimally invasive procedures guided by imaging to diagnose and treat various conditions, offering less invasive alternatives to traditional surgery. Despite its importance, awareness among family medicine practitioners can vary, affecting patient care. While IR has advanced in Saudi Arabia, there are limited data on family medicine practitioners' understanding of IR.
