Article Synopsis
  • A meta-analysis examined the effectiveness of cloth face masks compared to medical/surgical and N95 masks in preventing viral spread, with mixed results.
  • The analysis included twelve studies and found that medical/surgical and N95 masks were significantly more effective than cloth masks, particularly when fitted properly.
  • The findings suggest that while cloth masks are less effective, they might still be useful in settings where compliance with mask-wearing is crucial.

Cellular agriculture could meet growing demand for animal products, but yields are typically low and regulatory bodies restrict genetic modification for cultured meat production. Here we demonstrate the spontaneous immortalization and genetic stability of fibroblasts derived from several chicken breeds. Cell lines were adapted to grow as single-cell suspensions using serum-free culture medium, reaching densities of 108 × 10 cells per ml in continuous culture, corresponding to yields of 36% w/v.

Background: A recent analysis found bradycardia during laparoscopy as a potential early warning sign of cardiac arrest. Knowledge regarding bradycardia frequency and its consequences during laparoscopy is limited.

Methods: Using the computerized record database, files of 9915 patients undergoing laparoscopic surgery, between June 2008 and August 2013 at a tertiary, academic medical center, were screened for intraoperative bradycardia (heart rate <50 beats/min for at least three consecutive measures).

Objectives: This study sought to evaluate the safety and feasibility of a magnetic medical positioning system (MPS) to determine the three-dimensional (3D) position and orientation of intracoronary wires and catheters and to guide angiography and percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).

Background: Coronary angiography relies on fluoroscopy for catheter navigation and often fails to accurately portray vessel tortuosity, overlap, and length because of complex anatomy and foreshortening of curved coronary segments.

Methods: Forty adult participants underwent coronary angiography and/or PCI with MPS guidance.
