Liver uptake of 99mTc-labeled diphosphonate (DPD) by metastatic lesions from large bowel carcinoma.

Accumulation of 99mTc-diphosphonate was observed in 2 of 12 patients with liver metastases who had primary adenocarcinoma of the large bowel. The area of excessive radionuclide concentration corresponded well to the location of the hepatic metastases. The literature on this subject is reviewed and a possible mechanism of radionuclide accumulation is discussed.

[Diagnostic value of bone scintigraphy in otorhinolaryngology].

18 patients with inflammatory or neoplastic diseases of the skull underwent bone scintigraphy; the scintigraphic and radiologic findings were compared with the extent of the lesion found at surgery. Possible errors and the diagnostic value of this method are discussed.

The rare occurrence of a radiation-induced osteosarcoma in the clavicule after treatment of thyroid cancer.

The authors report on a postirradiation osteosarcoma of the clavicule in a patient treated for thyroid cancer. The total absorbed dose to the right clavicule was estimated 149 Gy (60 Co and 18 MeV elektron beam). The findings are demonstrated on plain radiographs, CT-scan and bone scintigraphy.

Red blood cell survival and morphology during and after intraoperative autotransfusion.

In an animal experimental model the survival of untreated red blood cells (RBC) tagged with 51Cr was compared with cells processed by an autotransfusion device separating and washing the RBC tagged with 111In. Intraoperative autotransfusion (IAT) was done by the Haemonetics Cell Saver. Additionally the morphology of human RBC was investigated in different stages of IAT by the aid of scanner electron micrographs.
