Article Synopsis
  • The study introduces RFS-Net, a deep learning model designed to accurately segment and identify multi-class retinal fluids (MRF) like intraretinal fluid (IRF), subretinal fluid (SRF), and pigment epithelial detachment (PED) from optical coherence tomography (OCT) images, enhancing anti-VEGF therapy precision.
  • RFS-Net uses advanced architecture features like atrous spatial pyramid pooling and residual blocks, trained on a dataset of OCT scans from diverse sources, to improve segmentation accuracy while maintaining global information.
  • The model showed promising performance with mean F scores of around 0.76 to 0.81 for MRF segmentation, significantly increasing efficiency compared to traditional manual methods.

Purpose: To describe a case of spontaneous anterior migration of intravitreal fluocinolone acetonide (Iluvien®) implant in a pseudophakic eye with intact posterior capsule.

Observation: A 60-year old woman with proliferative diabetic retinopathy underwent uneventful pars plana vitrectomy and phacoemulsification with posterior chamber intraocular lens (PCIOL) implants in both eyes. She developed diabetic macular edema (DME) in her right eye which failed to respond to repeated intravitreal injections of Aflibercept 2mg/0.

In spite of the relatively high morbidity and mortality, there is no approved medication yet for COVID-19. There are more than 200 ongoing trials on different drugs or vaccines, but new medications may take until 2021 to develop. Defining the optimal number of patients to be included in a study is a considerable challenge in these interventional researches.

A 14-year-old male presented to the ophthalmology clinic with a history of asthenopia. Laboratory, radiological and histopathological studies confirmed the diagnosis of allergic fungal sinusitis resulting in lateral displacement of the medial rectus muscles. Symptoms improved and near point of convergence recovered after surgical endoscopic decompression of the ethmoidal and maxillary sinuses.

We examined the relationship between body fat and body mass index (BMI) in a multiethnic population of obese children. BMI z-scores were compared to DEXA measures of whole body composition and regional fat distribution. Fat mass index (FMI) was best predicted by the equation: 1/[(0.
